Adventure: Preston Vineyards in Healdsburg
CRAVE: A glass of chardonnay on their wrap-around patio
Finding the perfect winery to visit can be so intimidating. There are several different areas to explore such as Sonoma, Napa, and Mendocino, each with hundreds of wineries to choose from. The vibe of each winery can be defined by the following characteristics:
- Cost: Prices can vary with the lowest at $10+ for a tasting, others waving the tasting fee if you buy a bottle
- Food: Some offer food, others allow you to bring your own
- Ambiance: Do you want expansive grounds to roam, or maybe deep, cool caves to explore? A cute cottage on the property, or a massive mansion? Something more commercial or a rustic farm vibe?
- Timing: Popular wineries can be “by appointment only” so make sure to secure a reservation for one of these popular spots
Depending on what you are looking for, make sure to tailor your search accordingly. One Saturday afternoon we decided to venture up to Healdsburg to try some new wineries.
One that stood out? Preston Vineyards.
This winery is tucked away from the main roads, driving down several dirt roads to get to the farm and the cottage where wine tasting takes place.
The vibe here is very relaxed, rustic, but refined. Everything about the grounds feels like you stepped into a Martha Stewart run operation.
One of the most unique things about this place is the little general store selling produce, vegetables, spices, olive oil and herbs — all from the their farm.
You can pick out your items, weigh them, and self-pay. The honor system is in play here. There are also fresh loaves of bread and a selection of cheeses you can purchase.
All in all, this is the perfect space to bring a picnic, pick up some goods fresh from the farm, and relax in a place that truly feels like you are in the heart of wine country.
