Eating: Flour + Co.
CRAVE: Bacon, Chive & Cheddar Biscuit, and the Nutella, Banana & Hazelnut Tart
Life gets increasingly complicated as you grow up; more decisions to make, life paths to follow and responsibilities to take care of (supposedly). Your life starts going one direction, and your family and friends in 12 other directions all together. In such busy times I’ve realized it’s all that much more important to make the effort to keep up with each others lives.
Case and point: a good excuse for a sampling of Sunday baked goods and a long walk to the San Francisco waterfront to have some much needed life catch-up with a good friend.
We started our morning at Nob Hill’s bakery and sandwich shop: Flour + Co. The bakery has an assortment of pastries, breads, sandwiches, salads, coffees and pretty much everything your rumbling tummy could desire. The cafe is the brainchild of La Boulange’s former operations director, Emily Day (with that bakery background you know it’s going to be good).
I found myself being pulled in several different directions when staring into the pristine glass classes of sweets. Not one to fight nature, I let that pull take over and bought half the items with the intention to sample each and save part for later.
Like that happened.
Start with one of these Monkey Bread pastries. Each little round cinnamon nugget pulls apart from the rest so you can dip it in sugary cream cheese frosting.
Savory flavors are necessary to balance out your taste buds out — try the Bacon, Chive and Cheddar Biscuit. Biscuits are one of my all-time #foodcraves, can’t get enough them. Great flakiness and slow crumble factor.
Back to sweets. A pop tart on steroids, the Nutella, Banana and Hazelnut Tart does the trick and is flaky and fabulous.
As a self-diagnosed cookie addict, I tried their Chocolate Chunk Cookie version. Great cookie, very moist. Not my new favorite cookie in the city, but I wouldn’t kick it out of (breakfast-in) bed either.
There you have it: way too many sweets for one person in a morning. If it’s a nice day bring an old friend and make the short trek down to Aquatic Park to really enjoy your treats. Great conversation, great catch up, great calories.
