CRAVE: Mac ‘n cheese and a crispy apple cider
Upcider is just plain reliable. There will always be space, the food is delicious and doesn’t break the bank, and the ambiance is just right.
This spot is tucked on the second story, above street level, offering a cozy vibe removed from the activity of lower Polk Street. It’s neighbors include dance bars like Vertigo (enveloping all-red lighting and crystal ball sparkled dance dive) and Mayes (slightly grimy, dirty dancing — watch your pockets and purses here ladies), as well as more casual spots like Mcteague’s, R Bar, Hemlock Tavern and Lush Lounge.
Needless to say, it can be nice to find this quiet, relaxed spot to grab a few drinks with your friend or S.O. The menu is pages after pages of different ciders, and a few of beers. Plates here are easily shareable — flatbreads, salads and sides. Plus, a selection of sliders so everyone can mix and match a few more small bites of their own.
The mac ‘n cheese her is incredible. I can be really hard to please when it comes to my mac. I hate that fake cheesy sauce consistence — I want real cheese in there, definitely talking some goo action. Upcider’s mac ‘n cheese uses several different cheeses, then adds BREADCRUMBS (hell yes) and crispy bits of bacon and green onions. This is so good.
Great sliders and sides, this is a spot to bring great company for any occasion.
