ADVENTURE: Nomming at the Starbelly Patio Picnic // CRAVE: Seriously PERFECT fried chicken!
Let me tell you, if you haven’t heard of the Starbelly Patio Picnic events, you’re missing out on own of The Castro’s gems!
Starbelly has put together these patio picnic events for a few years now and they never cease to amaze me. The focus of these events is to create a unique meal each quarter focused on great seasonal ingredients and come together to enjoy this special menu in their tented back outdoor space. I’ve checked out this event before and knew I had to go back — especially when the next Starbelly Patio Picnic was going to be serving fried chicken! Read on for a look at the whole amazing dinner.
The vibe on the back patio is perfect — relaxed, intimate and modernly rustic.
Guests are seated at a space for the size of their party and offered to purchase drink tickets for beers, or enjoy cocktails brought to them by wait staff.
Guests eagerly line up to serve themselves generous helpings of picnic food.
This meal was one of my favorites! We started off with jalapeno corn bread served with a side of maple butter.
A simmering pot of molasses-baked Iacopi Farms butter beans with housemade bacon wafts up savory, sweet scents. Multiple scoops, please!
The cole slaw offers a refreshing contrast of textures and flavors. This particular slaw was made with apple and celery root.
Finally, it’s time for the main event! This fried chicken was legendary — perfectly crisped, delicious buttermilk fried chickens from Petaluma Poultry.
The best part about this meal? You can have seconds, thirds, fourths — they keep it coming!
But, do pace yourself! No Starbelly Patio Picnic would be complete without dessert! The Chef Adam Timney whipped up a stone fruit cobbler with a ginger bread topping, and housemade fluffy, white whipped cream.
Happy, full, and content — this is what amazing dinners are made of!
The Starbelly Patio Picnic happens every quarter. Keep up with the latest Starbelly events and snag your tickets on their website here.
