ADVENTURE: A Peruvian party on the patio of the La Mar restaurant // EATING: La Mar appetizers and pisco sours // CRAVE: Ceviche!
La Mar has some of the best Peruvian cuisine in San Francisco. La Mar also has one of the best patios in San Francisco. The cuisine and atmosphere combined makes for an amazing spot for one hell of a party!
The “Sunset Pisco Parties” are La Mar’s newest event series, offering a lively fiesta on their back patio. If you are looking for a fun, tasty date night or night out with friends this is an event you should definitely check out! The party features live music from local Latin favorite Sang Matiz and unlimited Pisco Sours all night. Yes, please!
When we arrived, the patio was already bustling. The live singers and musicians were infusing the party with positive energy, and several people were already showing off their moves on the dance floor. The ticket for the event is all-inclusive and also includes unlimited appetizers that are set up buffet-style for you to enjoy.
We started off grabbing a pisco sour (one of my favorite drinks!) from one of the two bars available. The pisco sour is a traditional Peruvian drink with a sweet, fruity taste and its signature frothy top made from whisked egg whites.
Don’t be fooled by seeing the term “appetizers” and thinking this will just be a few light apps to taste. The portions are generous and unlimited — we were easily stuffed! Much of La Mar’s menu is small plates so you really are getting to try the best dishes off the menu!
A few waiters started passing around food and we snagged a few bites! First off, La Mar is heaven for anyone who likes ceviche. Their menu offers about 9 ceviches, many of which we tried in small sample spoons or large bowls throughout the evening.
Skewers of different meat and seafood are another specialty at La Mar. Their beef and chicken skewers were absolutely delicious.
La Mar also has a strong empanada game. We tried shrimp, chicken, beef and mushroom empanadas throughout the evening. The empanadas are perfect pockets of fried, flaky dough, each topped with a different complementing sauce.
All in all, if you are looking for a livelier alternative to your usual sit-down dinner date night, the pisco parties at La Mar are one-of-a-kind! The event happens every month or two so keep an eye out on the Event section of La Mar’s website for future pisco parties!
