CRAVE: Grilled cheese!
There’s nothing better on a rainy, cloudy day then a warm, crunchy grilled cheese sandwich and a simmering bowl of hot soup. You know, the kind of grilled cheese where the bread is so thick it’s fluffy in the middle, but crisp on the edges and around the crust, leaving a light buttery residue on your fingers as you adjust your hands over the shrinking morsel after each bite.
That kind of grilled cheese.
For those that have braved the wait at Outerlands, you know exactly what I’m talking about.
Their grilled cheese has to be one of the best I’ve ever had — and is definitely the most hyped queso and bread combo in San Francisco. My 3rd visit, to Outerlands, I was expecting the usual “they-estimate-you-1-but-really-ends-up-being-2-hours” wait that comes standard with a trip to this restaurant. To my pleasant, pleasant surprise we had NO WAIT AT ALL.
This is virtually unheard of for this restaurant – even on weekdays.
Maybe it was the rain? Maybe the chilly January weather? Maybe Hump Day Magic? Either way, my lunch date and I we’re not complaining.
The Winter Vegetable Soup – ended up being a little too oily and bland. Usually their soups are muchhhh better than this.
Glorious grilled cheese on Tartine bread. A++
The other silent co-star: Open-Faced Sandwich with Roasted Chicories, Goat cheese, Apple, Caramelized Onion topped with Fried Egg
End with a selection of sweet treats, and you will find yourself getting through your Wednesday Hump Day quite easily.
